Foggy Sunrise Engagement Session at The Griffith Observatory

I’m SO excited to share pictures from Summer and Mitch’s foggy sunrise engagement session at The Griffith Observatory. This was a much anticipated session, as we had already rescheduled twice before. Just days before our initially planned engagement session date, Mitch was in a pretty scary car accident. Thankfully he was doing well enough that were able to reschedule for a couple of months later. But when the new date came, we got rained out! Luckily, third time really was the charm. On this misty Los Angeles morning just after the rain had cleared, we finally got to capture this unique engagement session at the Griffith Observatory.

Their Story

Summer and Mitch first crossed paths in high school, sharing a few classes but not much more. It wasn’t until years later, through a chance reconnection on Facebook, that their story truly began. Mitch invited Summer out for a coffee date, rather than a cocktail, which stood out to her. But instead of grabbing a cup of joe, Mitch ended up taking her on a motorcycle ride. This epic first date marked the start of their adventurous journey together.

More than 8 years later, on a trip to Ojai for Summer’s birthday, Mitch proposed. Summer recounted that he was noticeably more nervous than usual, and indulged in some extra champagne to calm his nerves. But nonetheless, it was a perfect proposal.

The Engagement Session

The foggy backdrop added a touch of mystery to their Griffith Observatory engagement photos. We paid homage their first date with some photos with Mitch’s motorcycle, which made for some pretty epic photos at one of Los Angeles’s most iconic engagement photo locations. When couples ask what to wear for their engagement session, I usually recommend something a little dressy. However there are exceptions to every rule and torn black jeans, leather jacket, and bold plaid worked perfectly with the motorcycle. The darker colors and bold pattern really popped against the clean white architecture and structural elements of the observatory. The end result was a modern LA engagement session with moodier vibes thanks to the hazy skies and fresh rainwater wetting the ground. We ended this sunrise photo session on the trail behind the observatory; one of the Griffith Observatory photos spots that’s a little off the beaten path but 100% worth a slight detour in my opinion!
