History of The Langham Huntington

The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena boasts a rich history spanning over a century. The hotel originally opened in 1907 as the Hotel Wentworth. Civil War General Marshall C. Wentworth commissioned the project, it was designed by prominent architect Charles Frederick Whittlesey as an elegant winter resort. But upon its opening, the hotel was only partially complete and heavy rains dampened guest turnout. After just one season, it closed.

But the tides changed when railroad tycoon Henry E. Huntington purchased the hotel, refurbished it, and reopened it as The Huntington Hotel in 1914.

Over the years, The Huntington became an iconic destination, renowned for its luxury, 23 acres of lush greenery, and grand architecture reflecting the California Mission style. The hotel has hosted a glittering array of guests, from celebrities and politicians to royalty. It quickly garnered prominence on the Pasadena social scene, and became a hot spot for high-profile events and gatherings.

In 1991, the hotel underwent extensive renovations to modernize its facilities while preserving the historical charm. Then in 2007, it got another new name – The Langham Huntington, after becoming part of the Langham Hotels group.

Today, The Langham Huntington continues to be a symbol of prestige and elegance. This timeless Los Angeles wedding venue blends old Hollywood glam with modern luxury and is a beloved landmark in Pasadena.

Fun Fact: over the years the hotel has been used as a filming location for movies and TV shows. You might recognize it from Westworld, American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Parent Trap (1998), or Seabiscuit to name a few.
