Before it became a resort, the land was home to the Marineland of the Pacific, a popular oceanarium and tourist attraction that was open from 1954 to 1987. After Marineland closed, the land was purchased and extensive development of the resort began. 

Designed to blend into the natural coastal landscape, sustainability has always been at the forefront for the resort’s initiatives. During its construction, no land was removed and many materials used were recycled from pre-existing structures.
